With a keen insight on next generation technologies and platforms, House of Beor (HOB), LLC is innovating at the leading edge of web services/API platforms, open source, grid/cloud computing, the mobile internet, health IT, and next-generation software development frameworks. HOB was established in 2012 as a closed company, providing consulting services and IT analysis to not-for-profit organziations in the Philadelphia, PA area as well as advocacy for a number of open-source projects.
In 2016 House of Beor, LLC transitioned from a closed company to an open company,in preparation for commercial publishing activity in 2017. HOB will not be commencing business in other areas, such as IT consulting, however we will continue our support of not-for-profits and open source communities.
House of Beor, LLC is also a creative agency, with our first work of fiction being prepared for publication in 2017. Distribution will be through both eBook outlets (iTunes, Google, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble) and "old school" book stores (yes - that old fashioned paper stuff). Our first novel is a political thriller in a sci-fi setting where competing empires vie for, and occasionally collaborate to maintain, dominance over the world they have divided between themselves.
We are already hard at work on a second novel targeted at 2018 publication.
We started our blog in 2010 on wordpress.com and quickly moved to our own instance. With a focus on technology, soapbox (analysis and tech opinion), and crap (computer research and projects), Tarn Aeluin has nearly 200 articles published across a wide variety of topics. Programming for web and mobile, topic pieces on programming concepts, technical troubleshooting articles, and references of tips and tricks are primary focal points. However occasional articles focused on cars, sports, beer, and home technology are interspersed to maintain a fun mix of topics, both of the reader and the author.
House of Beor is proud to offer our blog free of advertisements, adwords, required videos to watch, and annoying popups. We make nothing on our content and it is published without any outside influence, commercial or other. We do track usage with Google Analytics, but that's it.
Speed, quality, security, and experience are the major drivers of our research into technology:
- Next Generation Web Programming Frameworks (Symfony3, Foundation, Node.js)
- Mobile internet (low power wireless, android, etc.)
- Android mobile development and UI/UX
- Encryption for the mobile world
- HTML5/CSS3/Typography and Vision Impaired User Interfaces
House of Beor has been a proponent, contributor to, user, and supporter of open source software projects including:
- Drupal - PHP open source CMS
- Wordpress.org - PHP open source blogging platform
- World Community Grid - grid computing platform for non-profit research
- SMART: OSS health records platform
- Symfony: PHP based MVC framework
- Apache: Mahout, Tomcat, CouchDB, and Cassandra
- Java Frameworks - Vaadin, Hibernate
